I think it's about time for a proper biopic about Sir Douglas. No?
They'd never make a good film because Douglass was too amazing.
A man who was born a slave but freed his own self and then fought for the freedom of slaves and women. A man who was the most famous Black man of his time. He lived a long life and influenced/mentored the next generation of activists (such as Ida B. Wells). He was the first Black person to be nominated as Vice-President of the U.S.
No, they'd rather make a film about Abraham Lincoln.. who once told Douglass ""there is no man in the country whose opinion I value more than yours."
And I know they would do something like cast the wrong people… tell the wrong stories.. somehow have a White person save the day (probably Lincoln).. I just can't. Like, I'm not ready for them to butcher Douglass's legacy.
I agree, I've read the Narrative of Frederick Douglass more than a dozen times, this man is to great for 2 hours and 15 mins of my life. I would need a decade plus for this film.
